What is the One Brain Method®?
This is a unique approach to stress management and performance enhancement. By combining elements and techniques borrowed from Eastern and Western traditions, including holistic health, neuroscience, body energy applications and original research, the One Brain Method® offers powerful, yet gentle, tools for addressing and defusing stressful issues and the feelings associated with them.
What kind of "stressful tissue"?
- Minor upsets
- Traumatic events
- Relationships (family, work , peers, friends and lovers)
- Panic attacks
- Phobias
- Learning disabilities
- Dyslexia
- Performance limitations (you know you can do better)
- "Knee Jerk" reaction patterns
- Unwanted habits or behaviours
How does the One Brain Method® Work?
This approach is based on the knowledge that stress interferes with our ability to think clearly and to function effectively. We have all experienced those "weak in the knees" and "knots in the stomach" feelings that accompany bad news or tension filled events. Stress affects the entire body, and one of those effects is a momentary weakening of the muscles. We use this momentary weakening as a biofeedback technique to access the information related to your goals for the session.
- Focus on what you want to change in your life (stress management, relationships, performance enhancement, etc).
- Clarify accurately, what is getting in the way. Often, how we see things isn't the reality of what they are. Our perceptions of situations are frequently skewed because of the way we think, a belief system that doesn't fit, or the reality is just too emotionally charged or painful to acknowledge. So then we mask the truth with something more palatable. This is where the muscle tensing is so valuable because it brings out the truth of what is really getting in the way of having what you want. With the truth acknowledged you are then able to more gently and easily move on.
- Defuse the real obstructions that are keeping you limited. Once the intensity is defused it becomes easier to make new choices and stick with them through the changes you are looking for.
Will this help physical or health problems?
We do not treat physical symptoms or cure diseases. What we can do is defuse the fear and stress involved in your health issues. Remember, stress drains us of vital energy, thereby interfering with the body's immune system, as will as, the ability to maintain mental clarity. So, just defusing the negative emotions surrounding a condition enhances the body's own healing systems and the ability to cope with the condition with more balance and ease. We have found that many apparently physical symptoms improve significantly when the underlying stress related cause is successfully resolved.
What happens in a defusion session?
Each session is individualized to the person and to the goal or stressor they choose to address. Using muscle testing as biofeedback from your arms to guide us, we clarify, defuse, correct and offer follow-up on the specific concerns you have, and changes you want as a result.
For the concern at hand, using our Behavioral Barometer, the muscle testing identifies the emotional responses you experience on three levels of awareness: conscious, subconscious, and body (cellular memory). This offers you the opportunity to see and acknowledge how your response patters have set up and unfolded over time. The corrections are then selected from a wide range of gentle defusing techniques that offer the opportunity to release the stress and self-doubt. This process often involves identifying ages of events that contributed to the problem now being experienced. With the negativity defused you then have the opportunity to choose and infuse what you want in the way of change. In finishing, we muscle test to see what you can do to effectively reinforce the benefits of the session and if or when a follow-up session is appropriate.
A balance session usually lasts about an hour to an hour and a half, especially the first couple of sessions. This does vary though (depending on many factors) and can also be completed in as little as fifteen minutes.
How many sessions are usually required to make a change?
For any one issue it may take up to three or four sessions
How long before I see or feel a difference?
Usually changes are noticed almost immediately and will often continue to unfold over a period of weeks or months.
Where does this approach come from?
Developed by Gordon Stokes and Daniel Whiteside through study and independent research. Gordon began to present his work and in 1982 he and Daniel officially established Three In One Concepts® and the One Brain Method® was born. Since that time Three In One Concepts ® has grown extensively world wide, especially in Europe and Japan. The One Brain Method® has changed a countless multitude of lives and there are now over 2000 trained facilitators using this work, many of which are also presenting and teaching.
