What are your Bad Habits? Phobia? Addiction? Obsession?
Our Bad Habits are those unwanted behaviors that are unproductive or destructive and we do them over and over and over again. They become compulsive. Compulsive behaviors are based on fear: fear from the past, fear of the present, or fear of the future. Fear patterns determine almost everything we do, or do not do, daily. It manifests as self-doubt, lack of confidence, shyness or insecurity. It prevents us from being ourselves.
Fear patterns based on past events dominate our present. In order to avoid any repetition of the painful past, we develop behaviors that we believe will protect us, but in the end are limiting and even destructive. An example of this is the person who, after having an auto accident while making a left turn, will go out of his way to avoid making a left hand turns. As a result, needs to leave earlier for destinations for increased travel time, uses more gas, and wear and tear on the vehicle. Phobia is based on fear from the past.
Fear of the present tends to be associated with a sense or feeling of lack. So, we will try to fill the void with a behavior, a person, place or substance, giving us the feeling that we have what we really want. Addictions fall into this category.
